Uber In US – Not Again!!

As per some source, Uber has been caught to secretly used a software named “greyball” which let Uber operate in places where it was restricted or banned.

This particular software plays such roles where it actually can help to identify the officials seeking to stop the services running. While the investigation was running, there were many questions thrown to Uber which were passes by the Uber’s spokesperson, reported the Reuters News Agency.

Uber was claimed to use the software “greyball” in several places, including Portland, Oregon where the service didn’t yet get the approval from the officials to operate.

Such areas, where Uber was not supposed to run, being passengers posted the transport regulation officials in a bid to prove that the company had been operating over there illegally. Therefore, “greyball” found out the ones who made that complaint basically, the transport officials in Portland and blocked them so that they don’t get the services.

Uber had sent a letter to transport officials in Portland where it mentioned that the greyball software was used exceedingly sparingly in the city, also said that it has not been used since April 2015 when it was granted permission to operate.

New York Times found out about Uber’s use of the software earlier this year. Uber defended its use in a blog saying the software helped it work out if a ride request was legitimate. It helped Uber limit fraud and protect drivers from harm, it added.

If the investigation against Uber comes positive by proving that Uber had been doing illegal activities then it’s not clear what sanctions it will face.

Uber had so far faced many criticism for it activities almost since the beginning. Right now it is fighting form Google-backed self-driving car firm Waymo.
