Few Tips for getting Awesome Tech Support

Troubleshooting for computer issues will never tend to cease as long as we are using computers. Most of the times when the problem is not with the internet, he will tend to Google it and find out the solution for our computer problem, but many a times the problem will cause the internet to go away and we are stuck feeling helpless. And we all know how lost we feel when we do not have access to our favorite piece of equipment. When we have nowhere to turn to we turn to the professionals. Here are some tips that will help you through the process.

It is extremely beneficial to actually know the problem and explain in terms of what has happened instead of rambling about what you think might have happened. It is helpful to take some screenshots and show your tech guy what exactly has happened. Most of the times this will easily get through to your tech guy who can quickly offer a solution in no time or tell you to bring your computer to the service station.

I have a friend who works at a computer repairing station and he had a recent problem where a woman called up and said that she only had no “no internet”. For the tech guy it is impossible to figure why out why she did not have any internet, since there are multiple reasons why this could happened. However my friend walked her through the usual process of restarting the modem, the router and the computer, but the age old solution did not work. They double checked the status on her lights and the connection, but everything was working perfectly fine. After 20 minutes of futility, my tech friend asked how did she know that the internet connection was gone and that when the problem was solved.

The woman had written the address of a website on a piece of paper and then tried to go the site based on what she had written. There was no problem whatsoever with the machine or the internet connection. It was the simplest solution: She had written the wrong URL, while the browser unable to process the faulty URL gave her the idea that her internet must have been gone. It was not the woman’s fault for not knowing what the problem really was and that she wrote the URL wrong, but the fault remained in ineffective communication. You cannot explain everything over the phone or the chat, but it is better to be get your situation clearly to the tech guy using all the tools she could use. It is rather best to describe the events just as it happened and not to add any of our own volitions into the account. Perhaps a screenshot of the error message is one of the best ways to let your tech guy know what the hell is up with your internet or your machine, making both your lives a bit easier and pleasant.

For instance, say you cannot login to your computer. Saying that “My computer won’t log in” is not at all clear. The tech guy on the side will be dazzled with the many reasons that you cannot login, hence confusing him from the very beginning. A better way to explain your situation will be account the exact events that took place before you could not login. A better way will be to say, “”My computer won’t let me log in,” instead say, “After entering my name and password, I proceeded to login and saw this error message.” Followed my screenshot of the error message. Now the tech guy knows exactly what is up, rather than having to explaining every single way that there is which will avail you from logging in and getting to the solution through a meticulous role of trial and elimination, wasting time and effort for both parties. With the later statement followed by the screenshot, the tech guy will definitely give you a solution in 2-3 minutes max.

Therefore, when you lose your internet connect, or your PC stops working or your laptop does not log in, make sure you know what you have to and explain it accordingly to the tech guy rather than beating around a bush that does not even exist.
