SOPHIA: An Artificially Intelligent Humanoid

These days, wonders are just like any other thing in our life. Science and technology never stopped mesmerizing us in their own ways. Scientists are working on projects ranging from drones to virtual reality but amongst all these, the talk of the town seems to be one Sophia – the name of the star of the robot world.

We all have pondered over the day when machines would look just a little too like human. And to our utmost awe, Sophia is that humanoid robot with a face that resembles human face in a bit too uncanny way. This humanoid individual achieved fame let alone notoriety when a few months back Saudi Arabia named Sophia its first robot citizen. It made people worried about the freedom denied to Saudi women, till date.

Sophia is the genius harvest of Hanson Robotics, an American firm with a base in Hong Kong.

Sophia can do a handshake or even have a chat with spontaneous responses to articulated questions. Developed by American and Chinese scientists ‘Sophia’ is a hugely impressive project combining robotics, speech recognition and machine learning.

The most surprising thing is the inventor of this robot loves to think that someday Sophia will be at the apex of Artificial Intelligence and eventually outperform humans at any intellectual task. The more she interacts with human the more she learns and grows.

Impressive enough, Sophia visited Bangladesh during the opening ceremony of Digital World 2017 held on 6th December and had a lively chat with our Prime Minister and later with the journalists.
