Nothing Gets Faster Than IBM

Unbelievably fast quantum computing system has been launched by IBM and they made it commercially available to business and to the research community by reinforcing it.

The firm is targeting to boost up the number of people who will be using these computers for their personal and professional benefits.

Since May, that quantum computers, based in New York, were available via internet. Forthcoming usage will include the applications where the discovery of updated machineries and medicines as well as making artificial intelligence will be much more powerful.

More than 40 thousand users have tested 2 lacs 75 thousand experiments on it, since the system went online last year.

While the system it has made publicly available is currently only as powerful as a standard laptop, it is an important first step, said IBM scientist Dr. Jerry Chow. He had also explained, “It is about growing an eco-system of users, developing a community that can grow and define the software that will run it”.

For the convenience of the programmers the system includes such interface where the programmers are allowed to launch instructions for the machine using Traditional Programming Language.

As per the traditional computers, they process all their information using bits – all the information is stored in tiny transistors which can either be on or off – widely known as values of one and zero.

On the other hand, quantum computing takes advantage of a mechanism known as super positioning which allows quantum bits or qubits to have values of one, zero or both at the same time.

Talking about the real power of quantum computing which lies in a concept known as entanglement, through which those bits can interfere and interact with each other, creating many states.

But the fact is, by nature qubits are massively unstable and it can get very tricky to maintain even one. The amazing thing can happen when quantum computing hits 50 – which is more powerful than the most powerful supercomputers currently existing – which will be something of a magic number.

Just for the information, simulation of 20 qubits will be offered by IBM’s quantum computer.
