iPhone, In The Verge Of Getting Banned by Qualcomm

iPhone has been using chip made by world’s biggest producer of mobile phone chip named Qualcomm for its phone. But this company has appealed to block some of iPhones sale in the US.

The firm accused iPhone for using chips by its rivals, like – Intel, infringe six of its patents.

This case has gone to the US International Commission (ITC) to investigate the fact as well as impose an import block.

It is the latest move in a series of disputes and lawsuits between Apple and Qualcomm.

Though because of certain abuse Qualcomm had made regarding its dominant position, Apple had filed 2 lawsuits against the firm.

Apple also claimed that the chip maker had already broken an agreement by denying Apple access to chip technologies it was entitled to use under the terms of a licensing deal between 2 companies.

Whereas, Qualcomm stated that Apple has used 6 patents relating to energy saving features on the iPhone, without permission. Because of this the firm has filed a lawsuit seeking financial compensation from Apple, according to the news agency Reuters.

The company said in a statement, “Apple continues to use Qualcomm’s technology while refusing to pay for it. These lawsuits seek to stop Apple’s infringement of six of our patented technologies,”.

BBC was informed by Apple regarding Qualcomm’s business practices that harmed the entire industry.

It said, “They supply us with a single connectivity component, but for years have been demanding a percentage of the total cost of our products – effectively taxing Apple’s innovation. We believe deeply in the value of intellectual property but we shouldn’t have to pay them for technology breakthroughs they have nothing to do with.”

Qualcomm is hopeful to get a positive response by ITC through the investigation in August.
