Direct Messages Were Exposed – Twitter Warns

For more than a year, an undisclosed number of users’ private message may have been leaked to a third-party, as Twitter has told.
The software “bug” involved direct messages between users and businesses that offer customer services via Twitter. Though the bug has been fixed already.
Affected users are being notified via a message that appeared while opening the app or logging in to the Twitter’s website.
Twitter told, “The issue has persisted since May 2017”.
As per the company said, on 10th September they have resolved the issue immediately after receiving it.
It’s true that the company yet didn’t precisely said how many users it had notified but said in a statement its announcement it amounted to fewer than 1% of its total users.
According to the firm’s latest figures that was published in July, the number of active users the network has is 335m.
Twitter said not all direct messages, which are supposed to be private, unlike normal tweets, were at risk, just those between users and companies, such as airplane.
The company also said, “We have not found an instance where data was sent to the incorrect party. We can’t conclusively confirm it didn’t happen, so we are telling potentially impacted people about the bug.
If you were potentially involved, we will contact you today. We are sorry that this happened.”
