Action Taken Against FB’s Fake News

Germany has taken a step against the fraud stories and stated that users will be flagged if any false stories spread via Facebook. Not only that, those stories will be then sent to a 3rd party for the reliability check and if found to be otherwise, there will be a mark on the users’ news feed as “disrupted”.

On Sunday, 15th January 2017, the company gave a statement in a German Language “Last month we announced measures to tackle the challenge of fake news on Facebook. We will put these updates in place in Germany in the coming weeks.”

As now-a-days fake news have been all over FB, which sometimes brings out a lot of controversies that directly or indirectly influence a lot of mins, some users even complained that fake news had influenced the US presidential election.

After that incident, German Govt. officials are very concerned that there might be another influence on the country’s parliamentary election this year. As a matter of fact, just on the last week a fake news was flying on Facebook regarding German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is seeking re-election.

German Justice Minister Heiko Maas is so concerned about this thing that he gave a warning to Facebook about those fake news. Not only that he has also asked the firm to maintain the dignity of the country’s defamation laws.

New measures have been taken, that is Germany will be able to use the option saying “It’s a fake news story” to mark the user who’s doing so. That news will be marked to notify others about it and also block the user.

Facebook as of now testing the system to find and erase the loophole in the US to verify news on its platform.
