5 Types of System Cleaners and Optimization Software You Don’t Need! Part 1

How many of you are downloaders? Let me take a wild guess; almost ALL of you. How many of you see advertisements for software like registry cleaner, PC
cleaner or optimizer or something similar when going to different download sites? For this, I don’t even need to guess – the answer is obvious. Just like most of you come across such software advertisements, you also use these software without knowing that you don’t really need them.

“But they promised me they would speed up my PC and fix errors! For free!” That’s what you are thinking now, right? Well, the cold hard truth is that most of their promised services are taken care of by Windows automatically, and software like these are the ones that contribute in slowing down your PC by keeping your system resources busy without doing anything.
In that regard, you can skip the following types of programs, paid or free, and keep your life simpler.
1) Registry Cleaner

These are probably the most common ones you see being advertised, when in fact, these are the ones you need the least. The windows registry is MASSIVE and each entry is typically very tiny, so removing even hundreds or thousands of them will not make ANY difference. Moreover, using such registry cleaners regularly will only cause more problems. They even remove some useful registry entries like they did in my case. After they were done “cleaning” my registry, I could not access My Documents, or Downloads, or any such Windows direct links without going deep inside Drive C.

2) PC Cleaners

These are the another type of junkware. I call them junkware because that’s what they are. Most of them are paid applications and they offer you services you can get from the free CCleaner software or even the Disk Cleanup utility built into Windows. So why install another useless piece of junk which will do nothing but use up system resources? I know I wouldn’t!

3) Driver Cleaner

I believe there has been no actual need of driver cleaners in the past half-decade. What’s there to clean when it comes to drivers? That too, with paid applications? NOTHING! As drivers get updated, the old ones periodically get cleaned up by Windows itself. So why give yourself additional headache by adding another weekly task to your To-Do’s?

4) Game Booster

Another tempting and yet worthless investment of money and system resources. Game boosters promise to speed up your PC for games by freezing background applications, but no real evidence has been found to support that. Moreover, they can even freeze some important Windows processes running in the background. What you can do for better game performance is stop your heavy downloads in BitTorrent and similar software and close any heavy-duty applications you might be running in your PC before playing the game.

5) After-market Defragmentation Program

Microsoft was nice enough to include a defragmentation tool for your drive that does the job just fine. Automatically. In the Background. Regularly. Notice the emphasis I put there. So don’t even bother defragmenting your hard drive manually, let alone installing separate applications for the job.
