April, 2005 - Link3 Joins Bangladesh Internet Exchange

April, 2005 – Link3 Technologies Ltd. has joined the Bangladesh Internet Exchange (BDIX). BDIX is a not-for-profit partnership between Internet Service Providers Bangladesh and SDNP Bangladesh to establish a physical interconnection for its members to exchange Internet traffic through BDIX. The Sustainable Development Networking Program (SDNP) is a global catalytic initiative launched by the UNDP to facilitate communication between users and suppliers of sustainable development information in developing countries.

The main goal of BDIX is to keep local traffic routed locally. This means that if a user of a local ISP wants to communicate (i.e. send email) with the user of another local ISP, then that communication will be routed locally through the BDIX instead of through international gateways as it was previously done. This will benefit users through better and faster communication experience while saving valuable international bandwidth for the local ISPs.
